This math course is offered to 5th graders and younger students who have qualified through Credit by Exam.
Students will cover both 5th grade and 6th grade Math TEKS in one school year using McGraw Hill's Course 1 curriculum and additional supplements. The primary focus is pre-algebra. This course is quickly paced and of rigorous content.
It is expected that students entering this course have a deep understanding of fractions (which is heavily covered in 5th grade level math) and absolutemastery of multi-digit multiplication and long division as we begin the year with rational numbers and dividing decimals.
Students must maintain at least an 80% on assessments without extra homework and tutoring per district requirement. Students unable to maintain grade expectations/keep up with the material will be moved to grade level math. Students are notified of a test at least a week in advance and are provided a study guide.
This year students in this course will take the 5th Grade Math STAAR Test in the spring.
Students interested in a challenge will be provided with opportunities to explore 7th grade math concepts.
What will I learn this year?
